Botox and Filler Training: Enrollment Requirements at CATI
You don’t need any prior aesthetic or injection experience to enroll at Coastal Aesthetic Training Institute (CATI). You need an active healthcare license. What you can do during the course depends on which license you hold, and out-of-state nurses need a Connecticut permit before Live Model day.
Do you need injection experience before Botox training?
No. Most students in our Foundations of Aesthetic Injections course have never performed an aesthetic injection.
What we do assume is the clinical base your license already represents: general anatomy, sterile technique, patient assessment, and comfort with patient care. The course builds on that with what’s specific to aesthetics:
- facial anatomy and the danger zones beneath the skin
- neuromodulator and hyaluronic acid (HA) filler technique
- product selection
- complication management
Which licenses qualify for each part of the course?
The Foundations course has two parts: a didactic and cadaver day, then a Live Model day. Eligibility is different for each.
| License | Didactic and cadaver workshops | Live Model day |
|---|---|---|
| Registered nurse (RN) | Yes | Yes |
| Physician assistant (PA) | Yes | Yes |
| Physician (MD) | Yes | Yes |
| Other licensed healthcare professionals | Yes | No |
If you hold a different license and aren’t sure where you fit, call us before you register. We’ll tell you exactly which sessions you can join.
Even if you can’t take part in Live Model day, the first day is valuable on its own. During our cadaver workshops, you study the depth, muscle orientation, and vascular structures of the face directly, which is the anatomy that makes injections safe. Read more about why we teach anatomy on cadavers first.
Which course should you start with?
| Where you are now | Where to start |
|---|---|
| New to aesthetic injections | Foundations of Aesthetic Injections |
| Practicing injector refining lips or advanced neuromodulator technique | Advanced Master Courses |
| Returning after time away, or tightening your technique | Refresher Course |
Pick the course that matches your hands-on experience, not your years in practice. An experienced ICU nurse who has never injected a face belongs in Foundations.
Out-of-state clinicians: plan for the Connecticut permit
Students are welcome from any state. To treat live models in Connecticut, out-of-state RNs, PAs, and MDs need Connecticut authorization first.
For RNs, the Connecticut Department of Public Health offers a temporary permit as part of Connecticut RN licensure by endorsement. RNs with a current, valid license in another U.S. state or territory are eligible for a 120-day, non-renewable temporary permit while their Connecticut license is pending, and the permit is issued about 15 business days after a completed online application is approved. Apply well before your course date so paperwork doesn’t cost you Live Model day. ct
For PAs and physicians, contact us before you register and we’ll walk you through the current requirement.

Frequently asked questions
Does finishing the course mean I’m certified to inject?
No. You receive a certificate of completion. Whether you can perform aesthetic injections, and under what supervision, depends on your license and your state’s rules.
Can I attend if I’m not eligible for Live Model day?
Yes. Licensed professionals who aren’t eligible for Live Model day can still take part in the didactic and cadaver workshops.
How often is the Foundations course offered?
About once every three months, with advanced courses in between. See our FAQs or contact us for the next dates.
